This week, I experienced something rather unexpected. I became a target of voice phishing here in the United States.
The person who called me introduced himself as a bank employee. He said that someone had tried to use my card to make a purchase in Florida, and he asked me to provide the last six digits of my card number to verify my identity. But something about the conversation did not feel right, so I told him I would not give him that information.
Then he asked me to log in to my bank account and tell him the last two items I had purchased. So I told him the first item. But strangely, he did not seem to understand what I said. That made me even more suspicious. If he were really looking at my account in order to verify my identity, he should have been able to recognize the item right away.
So when he asked for the second item, I told him I would not give him any more information. Then he suddenly became flustered and hung up the phone. At that moment, I realized that the whole thing had been a voice phishing scam.
These days, I hear that there are more and more people trying to deceive others in this way, and sadly, many people have already fallen victim to these scams. It seems that the world is becoming more and more broken. In fact, the world feels so troubled that even dramas about “Teach You a Lesson” have become popular.
Through this experience, I found myself thinking once again that the last days may truly be near. It became a week in which I was reminded to stay awake, to be spiritually alert, and to live with a clearer mind before God.
이번 주에 조금 황당한 일을 경험했습니다. 무려 이 미국에서 보이스 피싱을 당한 것입니다.
저에게 보이스 피싱을 했던 사람은 자신을 은행 직원이라고 소개했습니다. 누가 제 카드로 플로리다에서 결제를 시도했으니 본인 확인을 위해 제 카드의 마지막 6자리 번호를 알려 달랍니다. 그런데 그 이야기를 듣고 조금 느낌이 이상해서 안 안려 주겠다고 했습니다. 그러자 그 사람이 이번에는 은행 어카운트로 들어가서 제가 결제한 마지막 두 개의 아이템을 알려 달라고 요구했습니다.
그래서 처음 아이템을 알려 주었습니다. 하지만 당황스럽게도, 그 사람은 제가 한 말을 잘 못 알아 들었습니다. 그러자 의심이 더욱 커졌습니다. 왜냐하면 그 사람이 저를 확인하기 위해 제 어카운트를 같이 보고 있는 것이라면 분명히 제가 한 말을 바로 알아 들었어야 했기 때문입니다. 그래서 두 번째는 안 가르쳐 주겠다고 말하자 그 사람이 당황하며 갑자기 전화를 끊어 버렸습니다. 그리고 그 모든 것들이 보이스 피싱임을 알게 되었습니다.
그런데 요즘 이렇게 사람들을 속이는 사람들이 많이 늘었답니다. 그리고 그렇게 속은 사람들이 많답니다. 세상이 더욱 악해져 가고 있답니다. 실제로 세상이 얼마나 악해졌는지, ‘참교육’이라는 드라마가 유행할 정도랍니다. 그래서 마지막 때가 정말 가까이 왔구나 라는 생각이 들었습니다. 덕분에 다시 한번, 더욱더 깨어있음으로 정신 차리며 살아야되겠다는 다짐을 했던 한 주 였습니다.
