One of the things I always do when I come to Korea is get a health checkup. I also had one this week. Fortunately, there was a hospital that offered immediate appointments for people living overseas, so I was able to receive the checkup very easily.
As I listened to the results, however, there was one thing I found interesting. I was told that my liver enzyme levels were elevated because of stress. The doctor then asked whether I had been under stress lately.
The truth is, I have been experiencing some stress. Because of jet lag, my body feels very heavy by around 10:00 p.m., and I have also been waking up early because I cannot sleep well in the early morning. The health checkup was able to detect this.
Once again, I was amazed as I thought about the human body that God created. Through hormones, our bodies respond to outside stress, and that information is left in our blood, allowing us to understand our general physical condition through a blood test. How wonderfully and intricately we have been made.
God did not create only our bodies in this way. He also created the universe and our lives according to certain principles. Therefore, one of our responsibilities is to discover those principles.
In particular, we should live by discovering the reason and the plan behind God’s calling for us. What we can be thankful for is that this calling and plan are found in the Bible, just as information about our bodies is found in our blood.
I pray that you will discover God’s calling and plan for your life through the Bible. I also pray that you will faithfully live the life God desires for you.
한국에 오면 꼭 하는 일들 중에 하나가 건강검진을 받는 일입니다. 저도 이번 주에 건강검진을 받았습니다. 마침 해외거주자들은 바로 예약을 잡아 주는 병원이 있어서 아주 쉽게 건강검진을 받을 수 있었습니다. 그런데 검진 결과를 들으면서 신기한 것이 하나 있었습니다. 제 간 수치가 스트레스로 인해, 올라가 있답니다. 그러면서 요즘 스트레스를 받고 있느냐고 물어 보았습니다.
사실 스트레스를 받고 있습니다. 시차 적응으로 인해 저녁 10시만 되면 몸이 너무 무겁고 또 새벽에는 잠이 안 와서 일찍 깨고 있는 중입니다. 그런데 건강검진에서 그것을 발견한 것입니다. 그래서 다시 한번 하나님께서 만드신 우리의 몸을 보며 놀랬습니다. 호르몬을 통해서 외부의 충격을 조절하시고, 그런 정보를 피에 남겨 두셔서 피를 통해서 우리의 몸 상태를 대충 알 수 있게 하셨습니다. 얼마나 신묘막측한 일입니까?
그런데 우리의 몸만 그렇게 만드신 것이 아닙니다. 이 우주와 우리의 인생들도 다 그렇게 만드셨습니다. 그래서 우리들의 의무들 중 하나는 그런 법칙들을 발견하는 것입니다. 특별히 우리는 우리를 부르신 그 부르심의 이유와 계획들을 발견하며 살아야 합니다. 그런데 감사한 것은 성경 안에 그런 부르심과 계획들이 있습니다. 마치 우리의 피 안에 우리의 정보들이 들어가 있는 것처럼 말입니다. 그러니 성경을 통해서 꼭 그런 부르심과 계획들을 발견하며 사시길 축복합니다. 그래서 하나님께서 원하시는 인생들을 꼭 살아내시길 축복합니다.
