Summer is almost over, and it already feels like fall has arrived. I can already see quite a few fallen leaves on the streets. Somehow, fall seems to have come a little earlier than usual this year. It is still August, but I can already feel autumn in the air, which has caught me a little by surprise.
Whenever I think of fall, I naturally think of reading. So every fall, I make a resolution that I should read at least one good book. I made the same resolution again this year. But then I thought, rather than making this resolution by myself, why not read together as a church? That is how the idea for our “Fall Reading Campaign” began. So I looked for some good books that we could read together.
The first book I found is ‘Parenting’ by Paul David Tripp. This book helps us take another look at the way we raise our children and is especially helpful for parents who want to grow in their understanding of biblical parenting.
The second book is ‘Battling Unbelief’ by John Piper. This book helps us think about how we can fight unbelief and recover the joy in Jesus that we may have lost.
Participating in our Fall Reading Campaign is simple. Choose one of these two books, read it, and submit a short book review. Everyone who participates will receive a special gift.

여름이 거의 끝나가고 벌써 가을이 온 것 같습니다. 거리에는 벌서 떨어진 낙옆들도 제법 보입니다. 그런데 올해 가을은 예년보다 더 빨리 오는 것 같기도 합니다. 8월인데 벌써 가을이 느껴져서 조금 당황해 하고 있는 중입니다.
저는 가을만 되면 왠지 독서가 생각납니다. 그래서 가을만 되면 좋은 책을 한 권 정도는 무조건 읽어야 되겠다고 늘 결심합니다. 올해도 역시 그런 결심을 했었습니다. 그런데 다시 생각해 보니, 저만 결심하기에는 아쉬운 것 같아서, 전교인 분들과 같이 책을 읽으면 좋을 것 같다는 생각에 ‘가을 독서 캠페인’을 해보려고 합니다. 그래서 같이 읽을 만한 좋은 책들을 찾아 보았습니다.
제가 찾은 첫 번째 책은, 폴 트립이 지은 ‘완벽한 부모는 없다’라는 책입니다. 이 책은 우리의 자녀 교육을 다시 한번 생각해 보게 해 주는 책으로, 자녀 교육에 관심이 있는 부모들에게 아주 도움이 됩니다. 또 두 번째 책은 존 파이퍼가 쓴 ‘모두가 자신의 믿음 없음과 싸우고 있다’라는 책으로, 읽어버린 예수 안에서의 기쁨을 회복하기 위해 우리가 무엇을 하면 좋은지 돌아볼 수 있게 해 주는 책입니다.
이번 가을 독서 캠페인에 참여하는 방법은, 일단 읽고 싶은 책을 공동구매로 사서 읽은 후, 간단한 독후감을 제출해 주는 것입니다. 그러면 참여하시는 모든 분들께 귀한 선물을 드릴 예정입니다. 아무쪼록 많은 분들의 참여를 부탁드리며, 이번 가을도 더욱 풍성한 계절이 될 수 있기를 축복합니다.
