Last week, my daughter called me because one of her tires had lost air, and she did not know what to do. I immediately searched the area where she was and recommended a tire shop with excellent reviews. Then this week, my son called me because one of his tires had also lost air. Once again, I searched the area and recommended a highly rated tire shop nearby. Thanks to those good recommendations, both of them were able to get their tires repaired easily.
This reminded me of something. Going to a place with good ratings often makes it much easier to get things taken care of. The same is true of churches. Attending a good church helps our faith grow. However, we cannot always trust the church ratings we see on Google. People tend to favor their own church, and sometimes a church may appear better than it truly is.
Then where can we find a church’s true rating? We can find it in how well its members love their neighbors. A good church is one that loves God and also loves its neighbors. If a church says that it loves God but does not love its neighbors, then it does not have a good rating where it truly matters.
That is why our church is always asking how we can better love our neighbors. This Sunday, a community event will be held around our church. Because of the event, we will have to take a long detour to get to church. Still, I believe that accepting this inconvenience with grace is another way we can serve our neighbors. So we have decided to take the detour with joyful hearts.
I hope our church will continue to love our community and become even more deeply connected with the people around us. In this way, I pray that we will become a church with an even higher rating where it truly matters.
지난주에 딸에게서 타이어에 바람이 빠졌는데 어떻게 하면 좋겠냐는 연락을 받았습니다. 그래서 그 즉시 딸이 있는 곳을 검색해서 평점이 아주 좋은 타이어 가게를 소개해 주었습니다. 그런데 이번 주에는 아들에게서 또 타이어에 바람이 빠졌다는 연락을 받았습니다. 그래서 이번에도 역시 주변을 검색해서 평점이 좋은 타이어 가게를 소개해 주었습니다. 그랬더니 아주 쉽게 타이어를 수리받을 수 있습니다.
그것을 보면서 다시 한번 알게 된 것이 있습니다. 역시 평점이 좋은 데를 가야 일을 쉽게 처리할 수 있다는 것입니다. 그런데 교회도 마찬가지입니다. 평점이 좋은 교회를 다녀야 믿음이 자랄 수 있습니다. 그런데 구글에 나오는 교회의 평점들은 잘 믿을 수가 없습니다. 왜냐하면 팔이 안으로 굽다 보니 실제로 안 그런데 그런 척하는 교회들도 있기 때문입니다.
그럼 교회의 진짜 평점은 어디에서 찾을 수 있을까요? 교회의 진짜 평점은 그 교회 교인들이 이웃을 얼마나 사랑하느냐로 알 수 있습니다. 왜냐하면 좋은 교회란 하나님도 사랑하고, 이웃도 사랑하는 교회이기 때문입니다. 그런데 만약 하나님을 사랑한다고 하면서도, 이웃을 사랑하고 있지 않으면 그 교회는 나쁜 평점의 교회입니다.
그러다 보니 우리 교회도 항상 어떻게 하면 이웃을 사랑할 수 있을까 늘 고민을 합니다. 그런데 마침 이번 주일에 교회 주변으로 지역 행사가 열리게 되었습니다. 때문에 교회에 올 때 한참을 돌아서 와야 합니다. 하지만 그것도 이웃을 잘 섬기는 것이라고 생각합니다. 그래서 기쁜 마음으로 돌아오기로 했습니다. 저는 이렇게 우리 교회가 지역 사회를 사랑하며 지역 사회와 더욱더 함께 하는 교회가 되었으면 좋겠습니다. 그래서 더 높은 평점을 가진 교회가 되었으면 좋겠습니다.
