What do you think God loves most? I believe that what God loves most is often what Satan tries hardest to interfere with. And throughout my years in ministry, I have found that one of Satan’s greatest efforts is to keep people from worshiping God.
Sometimes Satan stirs up our hearts and fills us with distractions just as we are getting ready for church. Sometimes unexpected car problems arise, or we suddenly begin to feel sick. Through these things, he tries to keep us from coming to worship.
Even last Sunday, some of our church members were unable to attend worship because of such difficulties. When I see things like this, I become even more convinced that worship is truly precious to God.
That is why I take worship so seriously. I give my whole heart to it. I do everything I can to meet God and experience His presence in worship. I long to experience His wonderful grace each time we gather. And no matter what difficulties come my way, I do my best to be there.
Perhaps that is why I personally encounter God every time I worship. I meet Him as I sing praises, and I meet Him as I listen to and preach His Word.
Some people have asked me whether I really encounter God even while preaching. And my answer is yes. There are many times when God gives me fresh understanding right in the middle of a sermon. Sometimes, as I share His Word, I suddenly come to understand something I had not fully recognized while preparing the message. In those moments, I experience God even as I preach. I believe God has graciously received my heart, which is so deeply committed to worship.
And yet, strangely enough, the more I devote myself to worship, the more obstacles seem to come my way. But whenever I face those difficulties, I choose to give thanks. To me, they are a reminder that I am on the right path and that my worship truly matters.
Have you ever experienced such difficulties when trying to come to worship? If so, I encourage you to give thanks, just as I do. And let those difficulties lead you to become even more devoted to worship.
My prayer is that through your faithful worship, you will bring even greater joy to the heart of God.
