Last week, our VBS, which we had been preparing for with much prayer for a long time, came to a wonderful close by the grace of God. I sincerely want to thank everyone who worked so hard and served with such love.
There is something very special about the way our church does VBS. Every year, we invite new families to join us, and at the end of each day, we share a meal together. This year, seven new families participated in our VBS, and we had the joy of eating and spending time with them throughout the week. Among them were two families who do not attend church at all. One was a family with a Japanese wife and a Chinese husband, and the other was a Vietnamese family.
I recently heard that one of these families has begun to show an interest in our church. I was asked to pray that they would come and visit us, and from the moment I heard that news, I began praying earnestly for them. If this family comes to church, I think it would make this year’s VBS feel even more meaningful and fruitful.
The truth is, leading even one soul to salvation is one of the most important missions and directions of the church. That is why, as a church, we try to center everything we do around reaching people and leading them to Christ. We have always prepared our VBS with that same purpose in mind, and I am thankful that this year we may be beginning to see some precious fruit.
But even when we do not immediately see visible fruit, I believe God is pleased simply because we carry in our hearts His desire for the salvation of souls. He is pleased when our eyes begin to see what He sees and when our hearts care about what He cares about.
So we will continue to move forward with the desire to reach even one more soul. We want our church to keep going in that direction, and through it all, we simply want to bring joy to the heart of God.
지난 주 오랫동안 기도하며 준비해 왔던 VBS가 하나님의 은혜로 무사히 잘 끝났습니다. 수고하신 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사를 드립니다.
우리 교회의 VBS에는 우리 교회만의 아주 중요한 특징이 있습니다. 매 VBS마다 새로운 가정들을 초대해서 끝나는 시간마다 같이 밥을 먹는 것입니다. 올해도 VBS에 새로운 가정들이 7가정이나 함께 해 주셨고 그들과 함께 계속 밥을 먹었습니다. 그리고 그 중에는 교회를 전혀 다니지 않는 2가정도 있었습니다. 한 가정은 일본인 아내와 중국인 남편으로 이루어진 가정이었고, 또 한 가정은 베트남 가정이었습니다.
이야기를 듣기로는 그 중 한 가정이 교회에 관심이 생겼답니다. 그래서 그 가정이 교회에 올 수 있도록 기도 부탁한답니다. 그 이야기를 듣고 그 순간부터 열심히 기도하는 중입니다. 그 가정이 교회에 온다면 이번 VBS는 더 크게 성공할 것 같습니다.
사실 한 영혼을 구원시키는 것은 교회의 가장 중요한 사명이자, 방향입니다. 그래서 우리 교회는, 모든 행사를 영혼 구원에 맞추어서 진행하고 있습니다. 그래서 항상 VBS도 그렇게 맞추어서 준비했었는데, 감사하게도 이번에 귀한 열매를 맺을 수 있어 보입니다.
그런데 사실 열매를 맺지 않아도, 하나님께서는 우리 안에 이런 영혼 구원의 마음이 있는 것만으로도 기뻐하십니다. 우리의 시선이 하나님의 시선과 같이 겹쳐 있는 것만으로도 기뻐하십니다. 그래서 우리는 계속해서 한 영혼이라도 구원하는 방향으로 나아가려고 합니다. 그렇게 하나님을 기쁘시게 해 드리려고 합니다.
